Lamborghini-Blancpain's one-make Super Trofeo Championship, already in its 4th year in Europe, has a counterpart in the form of the Super Trofeo Asia Championship, which, after its very first race in Sepang, Malaysia, moved eastwards to Japan for two races over the weekend. The Fuji International Speedway, to be precise. With Mount Fuji making for the perfect misty backdrop, 18 Lamborghini Super Trofeos took to the racetrack, with many of the racers about to experience the Fuji Speedway for the very first time.
With the circuit rendered soaking wet by the torrential rains for the first race on Saturday, amateur Japanese drivers Terashima and Yasuoka hoped for a victory on their home-ground, but could only finish second, whereas the Pro-am team, favorites all throughout, won the first as well as the second race on Sunday, drivers Liu and Rizzo from China piloting their Super Trofeo to the chequered flag for the second time in two days.
Cristiano Inverni, Head of Super Trofeo Asia Series, said, “This race weekend was a real challenge for the drivers. The Fuji track is a tough and fast track, with uphill and downhill turns as well as a very long and therefore very fast straight”.
“Despite the rain we were spoilt with two gripping races. The pure amateur teams especially improved on their performance as they are getting more familiar with the Super Trofeo race car.”
