The all-new C-segment sedan will be offered on sale before the festive season.
Riding high on the success of its latest entrant in the Indian market with the Duster SUV, Renault India is now flexing its muscles to roll in the fifth product into the country, which we already knew would be a mid-size sedan based on the Nissan Sunny.
However, what we didn't know for certain was the official name of this soon-to-be-launched sedan, which was speculated to be 'Scala'. Now, we have an official confirmation from the French automaker that its newest entrant will indeed be tagged as the Renault Scala in the Indian market.
The French automaker had promised to bring in five new products into the Indian market before the end of 2012 and looks like they are bang on their target as the upcoming Renault Scala will be the fifth product coming out of Renault's factory after the Pulse hatchback, Fluence, Koleos and the Duster SUV. The Renault Scala will be offered on sale before the festive season kicks off in the country.
The upcoming Renault Scala will be completely based on the Nissan Sunny with few design tweaks made to the exteriors and interiors. The engine options, drivetrain and the rest of the oily bits too, will be borrowed from Nissan. And since, the mechanical bits will be left unchanged, we expect the Scala to come powered with by a 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines that are currently available with the Nissan Sunny. A CVT automatic gearbox, which is currently being developed might also be offered in near future.
