Official Hot News SSC to close out Ultimate Aero production with special XT model

2013 SSC Ultimate Aero XT - profile view amidst twisters

Production of the ultra-powerful, ultra-fast SSC Ultimate Aero is coming to an end, and the boys over at SSC North America (formerly Shelby SuperCars) are sending it off in style. Dubbed "Ultimate Aero XT," this is the final production run of the one-time world-record-holding hypercar, only five will be built, and will feature many key elements from the forthcoming Tuatara hypercar from SSC.

For starters, and perhaps most importantly, it gets the twin-turbocharged, dual-intercooled aluminum block V8 from its awkwardly named successor. With 6.9 liters of displacement (up from 6.35-liters in the standard Aero), and the aforementioned forced induction, SSC says the XT puts out a stupefying 1,300 horsepower. Other kit ported over from the Tuatara includes a paddle shift-operated seven-speed gearbox, cooling system, fuel system and brakes.

As if the XT wasn't already exclusive enough, the personalized paint schemes chosen by the five lucky XT customers will never be used again by SSC. Says SSC founder and CEO, Jerod Shelby, "It will certainly stand apart from any other Ultimate Aero in the market today."
The XT has a 44/56 front-to-rear weight distribution, and runs on 19x9.5-inch alloy wheels, shod with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 rubber. Other comforts include a cab-controlled front air-lift for speed bumps and the like, a backup camera and navigation system.

Pricing has yet to be released.
